Compare report periods and source data

Use consistent filters and source records when comparing operational reports across time periods.

Reports reflect the records included by their date range, filters, states and the data visible to your role.

Steps

  1. Open Reports and choose the report relevant to the question.
  2. Apply the date range and any available filters.
  3. Record the same filters when comparing another period or report.
  4. Open the supporting source records when a figure needs explanation.

Why figures can differ

Different date ranges, changed record statuses, newly recorded payments, and different filters can produce different results. Do not assume a report discrepancy is an accounting error without checking those inputs.

Compare the same conditions

Set equivalent dates, filters and status assumptions before comparing two report periods. A difference can be correct when one period includes a different booking, invoice or employee state.

Trace a number back

Use the linked or underlying source record to understand a total before changing data. Correct the source through its normal workflow; do not alter unrelated records to make a report look expected.
